Baltic Sea Archipelagos Symposium | 27–28 April 2026 | Turku, Finland
We invite papers and posters presenting studies on environmental change in the northern coastal Baltic Sea, based on spatial monitoring or modeling approaches. Time series or other long-term observations may derive from a variety of ecosystems, such as benthic and pelagic, open sea or archipelago/coastal systems. Contributions are welcome from diverse disciplines, such as meteorology, biology, geology, and chemistry. Especially welcome are studies that combine time series from different origins, such as meteorological or chemical with biological ones, and anthropogenic changes together with natural ones.
In addition, studies on the consequences of biodiversity loss are called for. We welcome studies that provide concrete examples of the societal or monetary value of biodiversity and its loss. The idea is to concretize the concept of biodiversity loss, including the loss of biomass of benthic plants, animals, zooplankton, cod, and herring. We also welcome papers and posters on newly emerging aspects of marine pollution, e.g., micro- and nanoplastics, PFAS compounds, etc.
We also encourage participants to submit posters that include new approaches, findings, suggestions, and descriptive studies which may not yet have reached the level of a full paper.
The scientific committee has preliminary plans to compile the most promising and interesting results, ideas, and opinions from the meeting into a short scientific text to be published in a peer-reviewed journal after the meeting.
